Finance Assistant

Hours of work: Part-Time, ideally 2-3 days (Mon – Fri only).
Duration of post: 12M FTC with a view to permancy
Salary: Grade 4 Starting salary £25,863.

Young Swindon and Wiltshire (working name of SMASH Youth Project) is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Finance Assistant to join our team. Initially on a 12M fixed-term basis but with a view to becoming a permanent position. Our initial thoughts are that approximately 2-3 days hours are required, with flexible working which can be fitted around the school day. Although a hybrid position with WFH, for the first few months there would need to be consistent overlap ‘in office’ with the Finance Officer (to learn the role) during their existing working days of Mon/Tue/Thu.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with accounts/finance/bookkeeping experience who is looking to contribute to a dynamic organisation that supports children and young people in Swindon and Wiltshire.

Key Responsibilities

You will support the day-to-day financial processing and operations of the charity, with a particular focus on maintaining accurate purchase ledger records, processing supplier invoices and staff expenses, and supporting outgoing payments. You’ll work closely with staff, partners and suppliers to ensure transactions are processed efficiently and in line with our financial procedures.

The key skills/expereince we are looking for are

  • Experience and appropriate qualification e.g. AAT Level 3 in a similar finance or accounting role.
  • Familiarity with using accounting software. (YSW use Liberty Accounts and training will be given if not familiar with this software).
  • Thorough working knowledge of Excel and practised with MS software i.e. Teams, Outlook, Word, Authenticator.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach.

Hours of work: Full-Time (35 hours a week, including evenings and weekends), salary: £29,101
